Job Description

Job Title: Home Study Specialist (Per Fee Basis) Lutheran Family & Children's Services of Missouri is seeking compassionate, professional Home Study Specialists. They will conduct home studies for prospective foster and adoptive applicants. They will also provide post placement supervision for adoptive families. We have multiple openings in Cape Girardeau, Columbia, Springfield and Saint Louis, Missouri. Duties: Provide quality direct services to clients; including education, evaluation and writing the home study in a timely manner. Remain up-to date on all associated policies and guidelines of the agency. Remain up-to-date on all associated State of Missouri licensing guidelines, policies, and practices for applicants wishing to adopt/foster through the State of Missouri. Seek supervision as needed throughout the home study process Provide resources and referrals to home study applicants as needed. Attend training and meetings at the direction of the supervisor.

Job Requirements

Qualifications: Education & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Human Services, Sociology or other related field. Five years of experience in child welfare and adoption fields. STARS and Spaulding training preferred. Knowledge and Skills: Extensive experience and current working knowledge of the state licensing process for foster and adoptive parents, and adoption preferred. Accomplished social work practices, child welfare and parenting skills related to fostering and adopting. Knowledge of therapeutic foster parenting. Knowledge of Children’s Division policies. Knowledge of grief, loss issues, trauma and child development. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; climb up to 5 feet; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift up to 34 pounds and carry up to 34 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to access, enter, modify, and retrieve data on a personal computer. The employee is also required to read, write, and speak the English language. .
